Dear families,
For those of you who know me, keeping a clean and safe space for the girls this summer will be no problem, compared to the urge of wanting to hug you and them upon arrival to the Abigail Academy!
So, before you read further, I ask you to do all that we have faithfully laid out for you to have a healthy and safe week of Abigail Academy life skills classes- even though it may be hard to resist the hugs!
We are changing from a large group model, to a classroom model with 5 students in each class- giving you child care, and continuing our summer worship via the themed life skills of fashion, cooking, and confidence.
What I did to come to today’s decision is: I looked at what I knew about how we realistically operate. I compared our operations to the CDC reopening guidelines, took the suggestions provided by the American Camp Association, and then looked through all of the orders issued by the Kentucky Governor for the businesses that currently have permission to re-open.
We fall into multiple categories for business. We are a unique company without a firm and clear defined National class. First, we are a private office for Life Coaching, our largest revenue stream. Secondly, we are a licensed and trademarked scripture based life skills company, that has a mission to improve confidence while making it fun for girls to know and rely on Jesus as they are encouraged to authentically and courageously aim to grow during adolescence. Thirdly, we provide childcare when students are away from the classroom.
I considered these elements, spoke with the SBA (Small Business Association), then a representative from the Governor’s education taskforce for guidance. I identified what I could honestly tell you with integrity that we would do to keep your daughter safe after you dropped her off. Those measures are listed here:
As I completed the review of a summer day within the suggested guidelines, it seems very doable, and actually a privilege to help you and your daughter during this time. Our small size serves us well right now. Our attention to detail does too.
While reviewing the day of life skill classes, it made me identify the parts of us that make the students feel valuable, excited to be with us, and what sets us apart from other places for girls.
It was the deciding moment when I realized the top three favorite things for our students are “love notes”, words of encouragement from other students and then knowing that they are here to learn through the making process of our theme lessons. They learn about their identity and Gods. Lastly, the students love to dream about the themes with other like-minded students in a peer-supportive environment. All of that we can do safely.
Parents, it is with great confidence that I write to you today that my company will be open to you this summer. You and your daughter are welcome to attend in the small group of 5 classes, or virtually. I have transparently laid out exactly how my team and I will be equipped for you to feel calm, excited, and safe.
I hope that if it is meant to be, then your daughter will get one of our few remaining spots and that she gets the love, social connection, and mentorship that she wants this summer.
We are here to do what we have always done, be the light in the world. John 1:4
Love, Abbey
